Photographer George Steinmetz’ New York Air—The View From Above is a WOW(!) arousing book. A loud cheer for breathtaking views of an amazing city that continues to thrill with its rich architectural legacy, varied neighborhoods, and geography . . .

Photography Is Magic encompasses the world of fine art photography at its widest measure possible by featuring the work of 85 contemporary artists. It is a tour de force of all visual media that may stray or touch in the most peripheral way upon any photographic means to create an image. . . .

Camera Sense Archives

INDIA by Steve McCurry is a book of first impressions that are intense and heartfelt. McCurry, an award-winning photojournalist who has traveled to India many over the past 30 years, sees afresh time after time, always instinctively reacting to his first impressions. He is a master of combining a powerful graphic approach with content that indicts poverty and reveals the ethos of a society . . .

Louis Stettner’s Penn Station, New York is not a photo book about the grandeur or architecture of the original Pennsylvania station—which should have been declared a landmark but instead was demolished in 1963. Stettner’s photography focuses on the people, the travelers, commuters, rail workers, and the flavor the life that passed through its portals . . . .

The World of Tim Burton is a delightful romp in a world of imagination that showcases Burton's sketches, watercolors, and oil paintings and gives great insight into his spontaneous creative impulse. It is a perceptive look into the mind of one of the most original and creative movie directors of our time . . . .

Did Olympus fumble the design of the E-M1’s EVF ?

The EVF (electronic viewfinder) of the Olympus OM-D E-M1 is a high resolution viewfinder (2.36 million dots). It displays a very detailed excellent image but it seems that the EVF is easily prone to damage if the diopter is set to +2 magnification.

I normally wear glasses but remove them to photograph . . .

Flawed Classic: Crimson Peak

I have thoroughly enjoyed Guillermo del Toro’s films in the past such as his treatment of Mike Mignola's Hellboy as well as Pan's Labyrinth and Pacific Rim, and for the first half-hour I felt that Crimson Peak had the look and feel to become a Victorian horror classic . . . .

The Olympus M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO for Micro-Four-Thirds exhibits truly remarkable sharpness wide open at f/2.8 which only improved at f/4 and f/5.6. By that I mean that there was a slight increase in contrast and overall sharpness. Its effective equivalent (35mm) field-of-view is that of a 80-300mm . . .

Finding Vivian Maier

Finding Vivian Maier is an exciting documentary of discovery that asks all the right questions such as ‘who was this person, why did she take so many pictures, and why did she not show her photographs during her lifetime?’ and presents us with surprising answers that at times are quite dark . . . .

Resisting Documentary Photography

When most people pick up a camera it is to document people and places—to record events as they occur. This is the seductive aspect of photography which often becomes an imposing limitation for Fine Art photographers . . .

Hiroshima mon amour

Hiroshima mon amour, which is part love story and documentary, rich in metaphor, tells a tale of two strangers immobilized like creatures in amber, unable to move forward or escape their past, while seeking refuge from their lives. . . .

The Martian

The power of The Martian lies in the premise that although unforeseen disasters occur, they inspire rescue missions to save a crew member, regardless of the odds. . . .

An Intuitive Interface

Great interface design has longevity. It defies trendiness. The box grid appearance is popular and trending right now in web design and tablets, mostly due to the influence of WordPress and Microsoft. Not too long ago and for more than a decade, the dimensional look of drop-shadows and bevels were the trend and the accepted style . . .

Searching for Sugar Man

Searching for Sugar Man is a one-in-a-million turn-of-events story. A documentary that is told in such a compelling manner that it commands your attention as it unravels a musical mystery. It is the story of a extremely gifted but struggling young songwriter-musician from the streets of Detroit who is unaware of the life-changing impact his songs have on people on the other side of the globe.. . . .

Hype aside, this question is something that I have encountered before with photographers asking for recommendations on cameras due to the fact that I have used mirrorless cameras since 2009. I do not believe that photographers choose a camera on the basis of one factor alone . . .

Are Mirrorless Cameras Always Smaller than DSLRs?

Cindy Sherman is a unique artist whose photography distinguishes itself by her presence both in front and behind the camera, as photographer and model, director and actor. She conceptualizes and stages her scenes as a drama of one, the play-acting of a single actor performing to a universal audience. . . .

Balancing the Photographic Trinity: Aperture, Shutter Speed & ISO

New students to photography may be perplexed by the “trinity” of image making: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO . . .
